How to Write a Baby Thesis or a Baby Plan

Any research starts with an act of observation whether it is linguistic, cultural, grammatical, semantic, stylistic, pragmatics,… etc.

- The panel is composed of 2 members, one for content and the other for form.
- Sciences are classified into two types: Humanities and Physical sciences.

1- Introduction;

Here, we introduce the topic itself. It can be a page or one and a half pages. It should pave the way of the branch of knowledge itself into my problem and you should state that you have observed something. For example this thing may be cultural specific terms or journalistic translation,…etc.

2- Setting the Problem/ Statement of the Problem;

In this section you should talk in details about the problem and focus on it.

3- Method of the Approach;

In this section you should talk about the way or the method you will tackle the problem. Write about the method you will use. This way may be:
1. Contrastive method;
2. Descriptive method;
3. Prescriptive method;
4. Historical method; … etc.

4- Objective of the Study / Aim of the Study;

In this part of the thesis you will write about what you want to reach in your research. For example;
- Higher degree of exactness in translation;
- To prove that synonym translation is difficult but can be solved by restricting to the meaning … etc.

5- Review of the Literature / Literature Review;

In this section you will mention the efforts of the scholars in the same field you are working on and your addition. You should name some works, some
names. You can say “To the best of my knowledge, some researchers tackled this problem such as …I tackled the problem in a different way …”

6- Sample Analysis;

Bring one or two practical examples and start with talking, discussing, explaining, or analyzing it. And provide a solution as if you are writing the thesis itself. This example should be a brand new one.

7- Tentative Chapterization;

In this section you should provide a tentative chapterization as if you were writing the thesis itself. In other words, imagine that you have finished writing your thesis and write the titles itself. For example,
My dissertation is divided as follows:
1- Introduction;
2- Chapter one: Theories of Translation;
3- Chapter two….;
4- Chapter three….
5- Conclusion.
Under each chapter; you should talk briefly on the content of the chapter itself. Write a summary of about 2 or 3 lines.

8-Findings and Conclusion;

In this section you are invited to talk about what you find as a researcher. It should be divided separately into: Finding, and Conclusion.

8- References;

This last section of the thesis or the baby thesis should contain of all references you have consulted in writing your research. It should be arranged alphabetically. It should contain all the English and Arabic references if there is any.
